Kids Crafts: Valentine Cards
These Valentine Cards are easy to make and not very different from dècoupage style projects Ana has been doing so far.
Items used: Construction paper for base, tissue papers to tear and stick on the construction paper, scissors, heart template, glue, embellishments like glitter, glitter glue, stickers etc.
- Simply tear and stick pieces of tissue paper on the construction paper or card stock if preferred
- When it dries a bit, draw heart template on the back and cut out little hearts
- Embellish with stickers and glitter and what-not
Ana was completely focused and enjoyed each step. "What do we do first, Amma?", "What next, Amma?" and so on. She did try cutting on the line I drew for the heart template on the back of the paper, but being too young to get it perfect, she got frustrated, so I ended up cutting out the hearts. Then she embellished them with glitter glue and stickers.
She has been practicing writing her name and she intends writing her name on every card she gives to her friends... she manages a capital 'A' and a squiggly 'n' and a 'circle a' as she puts it, sounding out 'a' as in 'apple', 'nnn' for the 'n' - the lower-case letters are introduced to her as sounds phonetically - well, unless one knows what to look for, her signature can keep people guessing, I suppose :)
There are a lot of things that need to happen developmentally before a child is ready to hold a pen/pencil and write in any controlled manner, but she is willing to try and that's all I care about for now.
